I'm getting the infinite loop bug on new system with Leaktek GF4 Ti4400. While NVmax somewhat helps, (meaning I can play quake3 longer than 2 minutes) but still happens just at various times. Sometimes half an hour, other times it's fine for a couple of hours.
I d/l'ed the Nvidia Wolf demo to check it out, that launches and then locks up right away.
So, I've read posts where some claim that drivers at 21.83 and below don't seem to have this problem. Can I use them, I don't mind a performance hit for stability.
I did a search for 21.83 drivers, and there listed as "Geforce3 Ti500" drivers. I'm just hoping to deal with this "loop bug" till it's found out what really causes it. I've been reading up on it the last 2 days.

New stuff-
Leadtek gf4 Ti4400
Asus P4S333 mb
512 DDR 2700
1.6 Intel
and Windows XP :(

Also, if anyone might know why both my CD-ROM and CDRW lock up the computer trying to read the CD that came with the Leadtek. While I'm guessing it has maybe some kind of DVD material, I still should be able to see whats on it (WINFOX, DVD player,......). Anything is fine, music, vcd,.....

Nope.... I wish!
It's not an nVidia only problem, but the overwhelming majority of the time it's nVidia paired with an VIA/ALi based mainboard.
On the rare occasion you will here of instances of the infinite loop with non-nVidia cards though, and Intel/SiS based mainboards.

The infinite loop bug still happens with the 21.83 and earlier drivers but it's not quitye as severe a problem. Unfortunately I don't believe drivers earlier then the 28.XX incorporate support for the GF4..... I'm not 100% sure on that though. Does anyone else recall which is the first driver to incorporate support for the GF4 in the .inf?

Personally I've found the best drivers to use if your having problems with the infinite loop bug to be the 21.81/21.83 and 27.10.
If your still experiencing issues the commonly suggested potential remedies are to drop to AGP 1X or 2X, and make sure you disable AGP fast writes.
Merely dropping to AGP 1X will cure the issue the majority of the time.
For DirectX stability it sometimes helps to increase the PCI texture memory size in the display adapter options to 56+ MB.
If none of the above helps at all then as a last resort you could drop the AGP aperture size to 8MB or below, this will almost always solve the issue but I would only suggest this as a last resort as it effectively disables most all of AGP's advanced features.
Also I would of course make sure your using the lastest SiS drivers for your P4S333.

Do you experience the issue only during 3D applications, or do you also see during regular 2D Windows usage?

thx Rand, no Windows 2D is fine, not one single problem there. I updated to the latest "Leadtek" drivers, should I use/try the latest Nvidia ones ?. And when u say "lastest SiS drivers", do u mean that they provide separate drivers than Asus ?. Guess I mean, are we talking MB bios update, or SiS drivers.

Never had the famous Nvidia loop error with 28.32 drivers myself however everybody reports different results so all you can do is try the tips that Rand suggested, also playing with the the ram speed settings has helped some people,so try try both slower and faster settings in Bios.
