Here's the setup

Either Win ME or 2000

A good Dual monitor Video card

and a Viewsonic PS790 19" monitor and a MAG DX700T 17" monitor

Will that work out? Or do the monitors have to be identical?

monitors do not have to be identical. just make sure you have drivers for each.

If you want to run different resolutions and refresh rates, you'd better get a matrox dualie.

There are a few options for going dual, but yes you can use whatever 2 monitors you want.

In Win2K, you have to run both monitors at the same res. WinME doesn't have this limitation.

That is legal, but I will tell you that it looks wierd if you try to view a web page or something across both screens, or if you have a windows error pop up in the midlle of the desktop while you have it spanned across both screens. I am thinking about a dual monitor setup and these are some of the concerns I have heard.

No Gameboy you don't have to run 2 monitors under 2000 at the same resolution.
www.matrox.com EDualHead g 450 Millennium. The best card available for a computer.....no, no...computer.... NOT toybox...
Seriously...nice rig. $140....go study it.....

Gameboy 2...errors (what errors ????) pop up in the primary monitor not in the middle and you can set programs or icons to open up in either monitor. You have 2 entirely different desktops unless you click span to image across both. When I edit a photo Photoshop opens to my right @800x600 with the website to my left @1024x768. When I go to mail...read mail,... it opens on the right. When I hit reply, the new mail window opens to the left.

The newest drivers from Matrox enables Win2K to treat the 2 monitors as sepearate monitors instead of one huge one... Meaning, you can now have separate resolutions, refresh rates, and color depth for the 2 monitors under Win2K.

Technically you can use any two monitors, however there are a few things you need to know.

Monitors use Electro magnetic field to deflect the electron beam across the screen. Thus monitors are very susceptible to external magnetic fields even those created by another monitor close by. In dual monitor application where monitors are set up side by side, there is a very good possibility that there magnetic fields will interact and cause rolling images, jitter or other annoying artifacts on both screens. Short of moving the monitors away from each other (Limiting the benefits of using a dual head video card) there is no way to insulate or shield the monitors to eliminate this phenomena. To reduce this problem I recommend that the same monitor make and model be used in dual head applications. Monitors of the same make and model are less likely to interact with each other.

The interaction between the two monitors is mostly due to the magnetic field fluctuating at different or out of sync frequencies. This is the same phenomenon you see when you look at a computer monitor on a television. In order to reduce this problem I recommend that both monitors be run at the same resolution and refresh rates.

Good Luck
