Can I upgrade to a P4 HT from my AMD XP1700 @2ghz without reinstalling Win XP?

there is a way in the registry , by deleting the hardware profile

but I am not sure of the keys involved.

you might post in software as thats where I read about it.
I know it works as I tried it once before but its been too long.

I have done this a few times. I boot for the WinXP CD and run the 2nd repair option. You lose any updates you had installed to Windows, but all the apps still work fine. It tests the system and reloads the proper drivers.

Good luck!

I think you're fine with links to other sites as long as they are "tastefull".... er, not pr0n, etc...

Thanks guys, & thanks for the link.
I did that when I upgraded from Nforce1 to Nforce2 but I thought I might have more trouble going from AMD to iNtel.

Now, what's a great OC mobo for a Prescott CPU?
I've used the Asus P4P800E Deluxe in the past, and it's OK for Overclocking but I'd choose another if it were better.

I love my Gigabyte GA-8IPE-1000 Pro/GT boards. Have one with (GT) and without (pro) onboard Video.

I have always been an Asus fan but, Bought one to try it out. With the bundled hardware and software package, along with the Dual BIOS, It was an easy sell. :D And it OC's really well. ;) Some Corsair Xms or OCZ Extreme Low latency ram in dual mode and you got one Kick Axx Crucher. :Q
