can I upgrade the processor in my Dell mobo?

I think I have a BX chipset in my Dell Dimension XPS R400 because I have a 100 mhz bus, running a PII 400. I bought the computer before I knew enough to build my own.

What upgrade paths do I have in terms of the CPU? I am running version A13 of the bios, and the mobo is Slot 1.

You can go up to an 850 P3, if you have a13 bios all you have to do is plug the chip in. Check out these 2 sites you will find all you need to know. I have an XPS450R than I was going to upgrade but I think I'm going to build an AMD system instead. Good luck.

a friend of mine had no trouble poping in a P3-700 into his R400 - it says Pentium Pro when starting up though.
