Hello,

I have the following Laptop:

Toshiba Satelite Pro 480CDT

Now this thing is slow compared to my desktp and I'd like to give it a little more pep. It came with 32 MB of RAM which I have no clue what ram it uses. I'd also like to know if I could upgrade the CPU on this thing?

If anyone could ifnd instructions on how to change eeach components please let me know.

Thanks

Well, the ram should be made accessible from a panel on the underside of the laptop. Probably a single screw holding it in. And as for the cpu upgrade, I doubt it. Even if you could remove the old chip (many times they are soldered on) you wouldn't be able to chance the frequencies or the multiplier... so SOL on that part... But more ram can be night and day. A friend's laptop had 32 megs, and we upped it to 64 and it was nearly twice as fast as far as loading apps and windows 98. Your system can handle upt to 160MB, it would do you good to get it there... Crucial.com has them for 127 with free shipping...

The 480CDT is a P233MMX with 2.1Gb HD and 32Mb RAM onboard which is upgradeable to 160Mb (I think) by adding a rare-as-hens-teeth 128Mb EDO 60ns module. It WILL NOT take SO-DIMM so dont be tempted into buying one.

They use a 2Mb Chips & Technologies PCI video onboard with a 12.1" TFT active color screen.

The CPU cannot be upgraded further due to it being a Pentium 1

Cheers

Furthermore to upgrade the memory you must remove the Removeable drive bay (whether the FDD or the CDROM is in it), the battery cover and the battery. You will notice three screws you can undo with a jewelers screwdriver right at the front of the notebook, one under the CDROM/FDD, one on the cover holding the HD in place in the middle and another under where the battery is. When the 3 screws are removed turn the notebook over so its upright, lift the screen and lift the plastic panel in front of the keyboard.

Under there u will find one socket for EDO ram.
