I'm looking to upgrade my Compaq Presario 1500's CPU and/or GPU. I currently have a P4 Northwood 2.2Ghz w/ a 400Mhz FSB and 32MB ATI Radeon 7500 Mobility.

I REALLY want to upgrade my graphics card to a much more recent Radeon 9600, is this even possible?

Second, My CPU runs really hot (heat = loud fans; random shutdowns during Warcraft 3), I really just want to get a cooler chip, or some hints for cooling this one down. Its not even the mobile version, just the regular desktop version. BTW, I have a mPGA 478 and a 845 Chipset.

Any Ideas?

the CPU is ugradable but if you put a faster proc, you may run into thermal issues as the heatpipe system of a laptop is designed specifically for one type of CPU. This is especially true since the P4 runs very hot.

regarding your GPU, most likely it is integrated into the mobo which means it is not upgradable

actually, the heatpipe system if a laptop is not just designed for a specific cpu, but for a range of cpu's. for example, my hp laptop runs at 2500+, but it can actually handle anywhere from 2400+ to 3000+. by doing this, hp saves money from actually not having to design a new heatpipe system for everytime a cpu comes out, especially for many existing cpu's. but, my system is an amd, so i cant be sure of it for intel since i know that their laptop runs VERY HOT! my sister has a dell 2.0ghz lappy and it overheats a lot to the point that the fan or AC is running on 90% of the time.
