Can I upgrade a Core Duo notebook to Core 2 Duo?

I got a Hypersonic CX7 Aviator which was advertised as being a Core 2, and when I selected cpu it only had core speed options. When I recieved it, besides being several weeks late, i checked and it was a Core Duo (centrino), and their website had been changed to include Core 2 and Core Duo options.

Has anyone had this problem from Hypersonic?
And if they jew me out of a return policy can I upgrade myself since both use socket 775?

Another display of bigotry like that will be your last post on our forums.

i think so

i think the mobile versions (merom?) are pin compatible with the older Core Duo's (yonah) because they both have 479 pins i think, and i cant see them being any more power hungry so i would assume its possible

conroe, ie the desktop C2D wont becuase thats got 775 pins

id try get them to change it because basically it sounds like they advertised it with C2D and then didnt deliver. so they should change it for you. they wont lose much either because core duo and core 2 duo are the same price. if not C2D is cheaper now maybe

Nice.

If you feel you are man enough to get your hands dirty go for it. Otherwise send it back for false advertisement. If you didn't get what you paid for the fault lies with them, not you. Double-check all your paperwork and make sure everything is listed right according to what you purchased.

Good luck!

unfortunately, the bill says "centrino duo" which i take to mean core duo, so i'm screwed, except they've offered to perform a standard upgrade and charge me for the new processor, so I'll probably go that route and leave the warranty intact;)
it is a notebook after all...
