Can I unmount and remount a tire?

Would it be bad to take the winter tires off the wheels and have them remounted for winter? That way I could get cheap steel wheels when I need them in winter instead of paying more for alloys to use with the summer tires.

The other thing I'm wondering about is how much I'll notice wheel weight. I'm looking at a 19lb wheel that's an extra $30 per wheel vs a 21lb wheel. Is it something I'll notice in my daily driving. I'm never going to track the car, but I enjoy a spirited drive every now and then.

You can unmount and remount tires (in fact, some people do it every year for winter tires), but it is easier and cheaper in the long run to just get a set of budget steelies for dedicated winter wheels and mount summer tires on the alloys (as you seem to be implying).

For 2 lbs per tire, I don't think $30 is worth it. You probably won't notice besides the placebo effect. If it was 5 lbs I'd probably pay the premium.
