Can I trust an Open Table reservation?

Leros

I just made reservations for Easter brunch on Open Table. It says the reservation is confirmed and in the restaurant's computer. Can I trust this? I've never used the service before.

I've used open table quite a number of times at both very high end restaurants and also little diners. I've never had an issue with it and sometimes the restaurant gives you a discount for using it.

Huzzah. Another human interaction removed from my life. I shall now retreat into my lair of solitude.

It's pretty awesome and if you want to reschedule or cancel a reservation you can do it through there too. And if you use it a lot you get points that gets you stuff. Forget what.

how does it work with smaller restaurants that might not have an internet or computer setup? does someone from open table call and place the reservation?

Restaurants can either use the OpenTable electronic reservation system that comes with a dedicated terminal or there's also a web portal they can use. I don't think I've ever come across a place via OpenTable that didn't use a electronic reservation system. 2 of my favorite restaurants only have ~10 tables but they use the OpenTable terminal.

I've used it a bunch, sometimes the same day, and sometimes months in advance and have never had a problem.

It's rock solid. It has never, ever, failed me for making reservations and cancellations(although I guess I wouldn't know if a cancellation didn't go through since I wouldn't have been there.)

If I'm feeling nice, though, I'd call the restaurant and make a reservation without using Open Table. I remember reading somewhere that their service is costly to the restaurant on a per-diner basis.
