I see alot of good deals for external cd burners. Can I take one apart and replace the drive with a dvd burner? I can easily get a external cd burner with 52x burner for $35, when a 5.25" external case itself cost $28 shipped off bensbargains.

Some external cases are lower quality, and transfer data slower than others. I'm guessing that a cheap external cdrw case may not transfer data much faster than what the cdrw requires. The mfgr wouldn't want to waste money on a case that is overkill for the cdrw going in it. It's worth a shot though IMO. :)

Yeah, worst case scenario you have an extra external CD-RW to sell on Ebay.
