Can I take an Apple product to the Apple Store for warranty service if I didn't buy it there?

I know this is probably a dumb question, but I've never needed warranty service on an Apple product before.

I have an iPod nano I bought just under a year ago at Costco (unfortunately, after they ceased having a lifetime warranty on electronics), and it has started providing output to only the left channel. I have tried it with numerous headphones, and it is definitely the player.

Can I bring it to the Apple Store for service, or do I need to deal directly with Apple?

TIA!

I think you can take it into the store, but know that you need to make an appointment first. If they can't fix it in the store, though, you'll probably have to have it sent into Apple to get it fixed.

Make an appointment online then take it to the store. If it's under warranty and the genius deems it defective they might just even swap you out with a refurbed one if they had any in stock.

Reiterating what the previous posters said, yes you can bring it to an apple store, but you will need to make an appointment first.

Search for your store here; http://www.apple.com/retail/

The first item down the left column is the Genius Bar and you can reserve an appointment there.

Thanks, dudes! I did in fact make an appointment at my local Apple store and they cheerfully swapped it out for a fresh (presumably refurb) unit with no hassle. Just another respect in which I appreciate the Apple business model . . .
