Yes, worst case you have to call them on the phone and tell then you got a new computer, and that you aren't using it on the old one.

1 XP= 1 license for one computer that's Microsoft

You can find all licensing info in your EULA

Depends on a lot of things unfortunately.

In general if you bought the retail version you should be able to move it to the new machine and it should authorize fine maybe even without a phone call (just did this with 4 machines and all of them authorized online automatically).

If its the OEM version Im not sure it will be that easy.

If you read the ULA for the one on your machine now its pretty easy to find the section on how many machines you can use the version you have.

thanks for the responses...i have a retail copy so it sounds like it shouldnt be a problem, i also read somewhere else about the "slate being wiped clean" after 120 days as far as the hardware check goes...anyone else know about that?

You have 3 online activations every 3 months. If you attempt to activate more often than that, you need to call Microsoft. If you plan on removing the old install and installing on the new computer, you will have zero problems. Unless you install and activate Windows more than 3 times in the 120 days. Then you'll have to call. And you still will have no problems. So long as you arent trying to do anything illegal. Just install Windows on your new computer, you'll be fine.

I think you are confused
don't take that personally
you are upgrading, you are not switching XP from an old system to a new system
I'd just use cab files or setup disk and install fresh
