Can I swap low end p4's in different Dells

I have a p4 1.7ghz and a p4 2.4 One is in a dimension 4300, the other in a dimension 4500. Do those pc's have the same mobo socket and chipset? How would i check such a thing. I apologize for being ignorant to this. The reason I ask is because I am considering buying a higher end AGP video card, and I want to be the least cpu limited as possible. Thanks

I guess what I am asking is. If i take the 1.7 chip out of the 845 chipset, will it work in the 845D chipset board. And will the 2.4 chip work in a plain 845 chipset board?

Welcome to the forums.

Check the specs of the PCs at dell's website using their service tag #. I believe the CPUs can be swapped but do check. Also you will get a quicker and more definitive response from http://forums.us.dell.com/supportforums/board?board.id=dim_upghw

Thanks for the info. I'm guessing now, that the 2.4 has a 533 fsb and wont work in my 4300 mobo. I will have to check in the AM.
