Can i swap hard disks ??

The inspiron has a 4200 rpm 60 GB HDD (Hitachi) and the IBM has a 7200 rpm 60 GB HDD....

Can i swap?

oh... and also... this doesnt void the warranty of either machine ... right?

there's a firmware update for that 60GB hard drive. make sure you get it, if it's not from the factory that way.

It won't void the warranty
Also the firmware update only applies to the t41 so if your moving from the t41 to the inspiron
you shouldn't need the firmware update.

there is this firmware update for hitachi 60 gb hdds too ... on the dell website...

I wonder if i ll need that...

It is basically the same firmware update and you do need it no matter which laptop you use the disk with. The firmware is the equivalent of the HD's BIOS.

The only issue here is that you HAVE to use the firmware update utility with the laptop that the disk originally came with. This is due to a disk ID that is hardwired.

And, in general, you can use any laptop HD with any laptop. All the way down to some old 2GB disks :)
