Can I stop a check from going through

I was contacted from another buyer saying the seller I bought an item from went AWOL.
He didn't accept paypal, so I sent him a personal check this Monday.
I checked my bank statement and still hasn't cashed the check.
So is it possible for me to cancel the check?

By AWOL you mean has disappeared and no longer answers any kind of communication? Or he's just scamming you? I'd say try to get ahold of him if still possible, figure out what's going on, before you just take this other guy at his word.

why would you send a personal check? all of your bank info is at the bottom of the check (your bank routing number and account number are all that they need to call any place that does check by phone transactions)...

next time you should get a money order or cashier's check...

I thought personal check would be a safer bet because I could always track where the check is deposited to?

He actually did reply me saying he got the check and will send it on Monday.
Now I am in a vulnerable position, I can't cancel the check because I might be accuse of writing fake checks.
So should I just go on and decide what to do later when he indeed scams my money?

If he deposits it your time is very short. The transaction will happen almost immediately.

If he screws you all you have left is legal action.

On the writing fake checks note that isn't going to happen unless he does send the item and you don't send it back.

Well, but if I cancel the check now. Then he will be the one that has leverage on me?
It just seems I am a sitting duck right now. Should I confront the guy right now first?
Becuase he is ignoring the other buyer's email.
