it's running stock, but i was thinking of an upgrade to the 8800gt or HD3850?. I don't play many new games mainly HL2, CS and CS:S, certainly not any of the newer fps save cod4 and maybe CoH or civ4. won't be upgrading to vista anytime soon so dx10 is not a priorty yet either.

should i make the upgrade or should i just stick with this card for a while? is the jump from the 7900gtx to the 8800gt that big as far as gaming is concerned?

A huge factor in that decision should be desired resolution and amount of eye candy intended

I game at 1920*1200 in all cases possible and try to max out as much as possible too - my 7900GTO (clocked to GTX+ speeds) was fine and great *until* I got into the higher resolutions & AA levels

if you're gaming at anything less than 1600*1200 you should be fine as long as you're willing to give up AA in some cases too

all the games you just listed off too have demo versions available - give the CoD4 demo a try and see how it runs - CoH will prolly run just a little slower than that but once again there is a demo to give you better idea

test first especially if there might not be a need to spend the extra cash

your card is still an absolute beast. especially for the games you play. wait for the real cards to come.

currently gaming at 1024x768 as my monitor is crap. think i'll save the money on a new card and put it into a dual monitor setup instead. + 1 for the wife as well :)

welp, i'll stick with the 7900gtx for another year maybe and then buy a new card.

Thanks all.

Sounds like a good plan. LCDs are getting cheaper by the day as well.

I think that is a good idea. I had a 7800GTX in my HTPC, and the only reason I upgraded to a 8800GT was for the HD decoding capability. I play pretty much a similar set of games, mainly HL2 CSS and TF2. The 7800GTX was fine for these games. As I said the only reason for the upgrade was for HD codec offloading.

Im sitting with a 7900GTO and i dont plan on upgrading it very soon. Its still pretty damn good, crysis brings it to its knees but it also brings the 8xxx series to its knees too... so ill wait for the card that can run crysis as it was meant to be run before upgrading. I think you should wait too.

Dual monitor goodness here I come!
