Id go with a better quality psu if i were you, but i also dont have any experience with enlight...but id still stay with the tried and true brands like antec, pcp&c, etc.

Also, is that just one raptor youre getting? Gonna be a little small and not that much faster than a big 7200 drive. Unless youre getting 2 for raid0. Personally id go for a big drive rather than a little faster.

im moving my 40GB and 15GB to this new comp so i'll have plenty of space. I'm not familiar with the raid setup. 2 drives are faster than one but that's only if you're copying from one hd to another?

I would definitely get a better quality PSU for such a nice system.. Try getting this cpu instead

90nm s939 A64 3000+

Any good aftermarket HSF should be fine if you dont plan on overclocking.. From the money you saved, you should get one of these PSUs

OCZ Powerstream
The PowerStream420 should be way more than enough for your current system and you would'nt have to worry about adding stuff later, but if your budget allows, the 480 or 520 would futureproof you even better

Ultra X-Connect

IMO the 3500+ is overpriced considering price/performance ratio.. you'll get a much better value with the s939 3000+, they also have the 3200+ for $215, but remember to get a HSF since they are sold as OEM!

As for getting 2 HDD and putting them in RAID 0, it will not give you faster performance as proved in this article
Western Digital's Raptors in RAID-0: Are two drives better than one?
RAID 0 really only helps if youre running a server, but not as a gamer or regular desktop user.

Hope this helps.

IMO between a the Antec 480 and OCZ 420, the OCZ 420 wins hands down especially since they are both at the same price. Heres why:

OCZ 420 +12V@30a

Antec 480 +12V@22a

Thanks guys

When I first started to look for parts, the 3500+ was the only 939 I could find. What a difference a few weeks makes.

I feel like I would paying for the shiny metal with the ultra x-connect, never heard of that brand. Never heard of OCZ either but I'm a noob when it comes to power supplies.

What about PSU's with ballbearings in their fans? Do they cost alot more? Are they worth it?

I'm looking at an article in maximumpc magazine and they're saying that 2, 250GB Maxtor Ultras connected to a tx4000 ata pci raid controller using an intel 865gbf chipset DOUBLED the read speed(MB/sec). performance was determined by running HD Tach. There was a small increase in speed with 3 drives and an actual decrease in speed with 4.

I agree on a better psu, but I'd split the difference between the Enlight and the OCZ. Grab an Enermax 350w (32-32-26). Or, if your one that likes high watts numbers, then the Enermax 460w (35-35-33) is the best bang for the buck psu that I can find.

Agreed, synthetic tests do show an improvement with RAID 0, but there is little to no real world performance gains. Like Anand said in the article, you will only see gains if you were running a server that constantly moves very large files around.

englight is a good PSU company though...hell MechBgon reccomended me it 2 years ago when i built my first rig in over 4 years!

Just because it isn't antec or enermax doesn't mean its bad...

It should be just enough for what he has now, but if he wants to get SLI or slap in some more HDDs or RAM or upgrade his cpu, he wouldnt have to get a new PSU if he opts for the OCZ or Ultra. The 420W Enlight only has 18amps on the +12V rail, not enought for futureproofing IMO.

Now that you mention it I have seen RAM that was made by OCZ but wasn't aware they made PSUs. Since PSUs are a new area for them I'm hesitant from buying one. How do we know it won't crap out in a few years. There hasn't been any long term testing.

The current issue of MaximumPC (i.e., the one with the Windows Longhorn Preview on the cover) contains a real world test of two Western Digital Raptors in RAID-0 config (promted by the anantech article linked above). MaximumPC also concludes that the WD Raptors in RAID-0 configuration are in fact slower than a single drive config.

Strange how all of us (me included) just accepted the common wisdom without any real-world evidence.

The output current on the OCZ 3.3V and 5V rails seems a little small. What are the recommended output currents for each rail.

Does anyone actually have an OCZ in their computer?

no thx

i want a case with a fan in the front and without a front door.

It has a 120mm fan mounting place right next to the hard drives. I don;t really like the door, but since I started doing F@H on that machine, I hardly ever turn it off anyway.

it's not because i want to turn it off and on, i leave mine all the time too but i burn alot of dvds and it automatically ejects the disk when its done. probably not the best idea to have a door there when the tray opens.

Read the OCZ reviews, these are very solid PSUs. Heck, like I said, take a look at the OCed systems they use to test out the OCZ. They are extremely stable, the rails barely fluctuate under load.. Try searching more reviews on google, I doubt you will find a review that doesnt give the powerstream a recommendation... If you do, send me the link.. Although they are a new line, they are no doubt one of the best line of PSUs out there on the market! OCZ also has a 5 year (correct me if I'm wrong) Power Swap warranty where you can just swap for a new one if anything happens to your current one.. I also feel the same way about the sonata, very sexy case, but I dont think I would like having to open and close the door everytime I turn on the computer or use the optical drives..

Well I decided to go with the OCZ 470. I just wish it didn't have that green LED.
I changed the case to the antec super lan boy, I wanted to be able to look inside and see all the parts plus I think I found a way to disable autoeject on my DVD.

Will I be able to disable the LED in the OCZ?
