Can I stack unmanaged gigabit switches?

I need to add some gigabit ports in a room. The line in the room comes from a D-Link unmanaged gigabit switch downstairs. Can I just plug a desktop gigabit switch into the wall jack, and get more ports?

In other words, are gigabit switches stackable, and is there any performance hit by doing this?

I haven't tried stacking gigabit, but I'm pretty sure that two won't be much of an issue. There is obviously some latency addition when you stack any switch, I don't think it'll be significant for a two deep tier.

Amused, yes, just don't create any loops - most unmanaged switches have no spanning-tree or other protections against that. But this is not gigabit centric at all, this is just like any other unmanaged switch.
