Can I squeeze an HD 4870 into a tiny Micro ATX case?

For my next build I was considering a Micro ATX/Shuttle-like build with an HD 4870. I don't know the size or dimensions of the card, but I was wondering if it would fit into these small Micro ATX cases such as:

Thermaltake VF1000BWS Black Aluminum MicroATX:

or

Shuttle SX38P2-Pro Intel Socket T(LGA775) Intel X38:

I was planning on pairing it with an E8400/8500 with 4GB DDR2-800 w/o OCing with fear of overheating. Should this work?

The card is 10in including the power cables. I think one would fit in that Shuttle but the PSU is too weak. I think it will hit the drive bay in the Thermaltake. I could be wrong.

The Aspire X-Qpack2 (note the 2) at newegg will fit 12" cards and has a 120mm exhaust fan for cooling the rest of the system.

I was thinking of building a mATX with it and with 4870, but the intel G45 chipset boards won't be out until next month.

I got impatient and went with a full-size P43 motherboard for an old Antec case I already have.

Regardless of whether the card fits in the case or not, the 4870s generate a decent amount of heat. In the small cramped spaces of an SFF box, its going to be much worse. Unless you don't mind having the 4870's fan cranked up to high RPMs, I'd go with something that produces less heat.

Well, the 4870 is a 2-slot card and the majority of the heat is blow out of the case, so I don't think I'll have to worry much if running it on stock settings and an E8400/8500 w/o OCing. Hey DaveSimmons, you mentioned the G45 in my previous thread...why is it worth waiting for? Also, in regards to the cases, how are you certain the Aspire Q-Pack2 can fit 12" cards? I just want to make certain.

Also, I stumbled on this one by Thermaltake:

Would this one work?

OP, I have to agree with this. A dual slot external exausting cooler is nice; but the card itself and all components are HOT. The whole card will be very warm inside these small cases. That metal bracket on the backside of the card gets warm enough to make you pull your finger away under load. Despite 100% rear case exausting, it's a cramped space for such a card.

If it's got to be one of these cases, I'd be thinking G92 GTS. Much cooler running..

My 8800gt all stock runs 90c and blows into the case. My 4870 runs 80c (all stock) and blows out of the case. What is better?

Lololol...yeah, thanks a bunch. If you don't mind, could you share with me the rest of your build/benches/temps if you have them? I've been evaluating different parts but I haven't come up with anything definitive.'

Oh wait, nvm...I see your build on rage3d. :p

Because it's 10 better than G35 :) . The intel website has the chipset specs, but the main thing I cared about was PCIE 2.0, as my giving in to "future proofing."
