Wow. NO.

7800GT 8800GTS = Different GPU's, Different RAM sizes, Different RAM bus speeds

And you don't know this yet?
I mean, I know that post count doesn't = anything, but still.

I feel I must respond to this uneccessary post.

I have been using ATI cards for years. The 2 7800 GT cards I have are my first Nvidia cards since the original GeForce card. So I am not all up on the Nvidia specs. I only asked because I read awhile ago that SLI would work with different nvidia cards, if I recall you could use 7800 and a 7900 or a 6800 with a 6600. I was not 100% sure so that is why I asked this simple question. I dont know anything about the 8800 series as I have been waiting for ATIs DX10 cards. I only have the 2 7800 GT cards because I wanted SLI and that was the best price/performance ratio at the time (six months or so ago). I dont post 9.52 posts a day in just over a year like you because I have a life, a job and a family to consider. But it does not make me stupid nor ignorant. I just dont spend my life finding out every little thing about a freaking video card, so pardon my ignorance on the topic. :disgust:

with SLi, both cards have to be the same. I'm pretty sure you can mix companies and maybe clock speeds

No kidding.

The video forum is a mere shadow of its glory years. You used to be able to get helpful advice from helpful members (like "oldfart" for instance)....

I'm glad you responded to that nonsense :)

Just to be on the safe side if you're contemplating an SLI system: use 2 of the same videocards from the same manufacturer and you'll have a much better experience. I love my 2 BFG 512MB GeForce 7950GTs in SLI mode!

Thats actually probably what you read about. For some time you need absolutely identical cards for SLI, down to the manufactorer. You still do, but you can use say a 6800GT from PNY and one from eVGA or whatever now, IIRC.

I apologize, I am sorry about that.

Hey, no prob. I was just curious. I guess I'll stick with my 2 7800 GT cards in SLI and wait for ATI DX10 cards, which will be a looooong time from what I hear.

Better 200 good and full of sense posts in 5 years than 1000 senseless posts in 6 months.

Ouch! :D

That hurt :p

Most of my posts are not senseless, I help when I can.
I happened to be not so good a mood and got ticked or something.

I've since come around :)

And if my posts were really senseless, it'll be more like 1500-2000 in the past 6 months proving that I have no life. ;)
