good question, i'd like to know too, cause i'm about to have my ibm 7200rpm 14.4gig squished between two other hds.

I wouldn't stack 3 7200 rpm hard drives. Buy one of those hard drive coolers that can let you put a hard drive in a 5.25 bay.

Yes you will need some kind of cooler if you are going to stack that many drives together. If you are already having some flaky stops, from whta you think is heat related issues, then I would get the HD coolers for all the drives.

And yes you could actually add that 75GB drive into the array, but all it would use off it for the array is the 60GB, probably.

However why would you want to create a single drive that big? Are you trying to slow drive access to a crawl as it does the lookups for the files?

🙁thaniks but hd coolers where do i get them and they fit iver ibm?
i will justt separate the drive i don`t use and have airflow

I have 2 IBM 45GXP 7200 rpm drives in my machine stacked fairly close together (1/4 inch apart).. Been there now for 2 1/2 years and no problems so far.

The IBM 60gxp has a little sticker around a hole on the top of the HD that states "do not cover".

Oh that hole doesn't do much 😉

Just lets the drive breath!

lol...

It says that on western digital drives too, but I really don't let there be too much of a space between them...
