Technically, anything over one pound cannot be left unattended for pickup unless you have a postal meter, this includes internet postage products. How well it is enforced depends on the local post office. If policy is enforced, you'll get it returned with a green sticker on it stating the rules.

Alright. This is under a pound (a CD). So..I could drop it off in a drop box, provided I had the postage on it, correct?

In your case, no problem with unattended pickup.

No, but I am a merchant and ship through them with thousands of packages every month, so I have some idea of what goes on. Call it BS rules if you wish, but you really are at the mercy of your local post office; if they want to go by the book, then you better play by the rules or you'll never get anything shipped through them. I've gone through all this cr@p years ago, and it's no fun. What I've learned is that one needs to arm themselves with as much postal policy knowledge as they can, enough to beat these guys at what they do.

Don't they have to mark it with a stamp declaring it as media mail?

I printed the label off via Paypal. (with postage)

I'm going to start doing that from now on so they don't hassle me with " want to buy some more stamps? do you have anything harmful, contagious, disease, explosive, radioactive, aids, cancers, hormones...? is it pre-recorded media blah blah..." They're nuts!
