I don't know who I pissed off but someone signed me up to get multiple calls per day regarding free IT whitepapers.

They usually have a thick indian accent, totally butcher my name as well as the company name and then ask to confirm my email address so they can send a free whitepaper.

I've tried to be calm and politely ask that they completely remove me from the system as I'm not interested in anything they have to offer, but it's been WEEKS and I still get calls. Today I've gotten 4 calls. The last one from Ziff Davis who called me back 30 minutes later after I threatened a harrassment suit and hung up. They wanted to know WHY I didn't want the FREE whitepaper. 😵 That resulted in me dropping several F bombs and nearly breaking my desk phone as I slammed it down. 😡

I've had to ask for my number to be changed.

If its at work you cannot do anything about harassment or do not call. As a guy who has been in sales for many years I would recommend every call goes to voice mail....always or tell them you're interested but have to do something then place them on eternal hold.
Another semi dirty trick is to say that you have died and the company is going to contract your "old" position out to a managed service.

Never pick up a call. It's a simple solution that puts you in charge of who and when you will talk on the phone. By answering calls you are allowing someone else to dicate your schedule and work priorities.

I would ask for their direct numbers and then keep calling them back to offer them a white paper from your own company.

I work in IT. Sometimes like today I've been waiting on a vendor support callback. If I don't answer and it goes to VM then I've got to wait another 2, 4, 24, (or whatever the SLA is) hours for another callback.

Until my number gets changed I'm thinking of answering as someone else. Then if its whitepaper related I'll say (my real name) is dead.
