can i safely edit the label name on the partition?

i get a norton antivirus warning saying that this is virus-like activity when i try to modify the label name in WinME. it is the primary partition that i have this trouble. NOT any of the other partitions.
 
i always thought you can change the partition label from windows explorer, even for the primary partition?
