I was wondering if somebody using this for applications that are not compatible with 64-bit Vista.

I'm not using it but I don't believe VPC supports 64-bit guests yet so you would have to be able to run the 32-bit OSes in it otherwise it would be pretty useless. =)

Ether I didn't get your point or you didn't understand the question.

I know I can run Virtual PC 2007 under Vista Ultimate - 64 bit and I know that I can have other versions of Windows running in VPC. The question I had is if I can ran 32bit OS inside of Virtual PC that runs on 64bit Ultimate.

And I said that AFAIK VPC doesn't support 64-bit guests so it either supports 32-bit guests, answering your question, or it doesn't run anything useful.

fyi though - apps that are not "compatible" with 64 bit will typically be using a kernel mode driver for something. You would typically want such apps to leverage your host hardware (video card, sound card, burner etc) so the gains may be dubious.

True user-mode 32bit applications will thunk just fine on a 64bit box. I suppose virtualizing an old 16 bit app may be handy though since I don't believe those will thunk.

For the OP though: Yes it will run fine.

You can run Virtual PC 2007 on a Vista 64-bit host. And, yeah, you can run XP SP2 32-bit inside of Virtual PC 2007.

As you likely know, Virtual PC doesn't support 3D graphics acceleration, so you won't be running most games.

Im doing that here, neither of my scanners have 64bit drivers (thank you Cannon), but they are USB so I'm running Vista 32 in Vmware under Vista 64. Works great.

Scanners seem to be the sore point with most Windows OS upgrades. All of the major scanner and multi-purpose printer/scanner/FAX makers deem it appropriate to ask you to buy new equpment every time there's a new OS. :|

Too bad Virtual PC doesn't support that Homer Simpson USB PlayPal, huh, Bill? ;)

Oh the XP drivers work fine in Vista 32, so they do work in the VM. Given the user mode usb framework, I might just snap and write new drivers :)
