Can I run two ATI FirePro 2460 using PCIe 1 To PCIe 16 Converter ?

Last year AMD came out with ATI FirePro 2460 Multi View, a low profile card for Stock traders. It supports 4 Monitors.

I want to use two of them for an 8 Monitor ( 1920x1200 Dell U2412M ) setup for stock trading.

I have only one PCIe x 16 slot & there is one PCIe x 1 slot emtpy.

Can I use PCIe x 1 to PCIe x 16 converter to plug in second Card & get 8 displays ?

Would my system support it ?

What are the downsides of doing this ?

If this works, I want to add a 3rd card in another PCIe x 1 slot for a 12 Monitor display. Would that be crazy ?

Following are specs of my System.

Dell XPS 8300

One PCIe 16 slot ( It has GeForce GT 530 that I cann throw away )

3 PCIe 1 slots ( One is Free ) ( Other 2 have sound card & TV Tuner Card & I can throw them away too if those slots are needed )

460 Watt Power Supply

i7-2600 Processor (3.4GHz, 8MB Cache)

Chipset Intel® H67

8GB (4X2GB) DDR3 SDRAM 1333MHz Memory

NVIDIA GeForce GT530 - 1GB GDDR3 (VGA/HDMI/DVI)

Windows - 7 Ultimate ( 64 bit )

Thanks

Most likely if the mobo doesn't have a second slot for a video card, it won't recognize a second card that's on the PCIex1 slot.

depends on the x1 slot. some have an open back which allows you to use any length card assuming other m/b components dont get in the way. if you do have an open socket slot, then you CAN use another fire pro 2460 for the additional 4 monitors.
you could try sticking your current card in there and see if it works.

if it isnt open, you can dremel tool or solder iron it to remove the plastic, but it is risky.

otherwise your options are to get another m/b with an additional x16 or x4 slot or look for a cheap x1 card.

Makes sense. Excellent suggestion. Will give it a try. Wouldn't want to try dremel too though not being a tech person. It might void Dell warranty if I screw up.
