Can I run SQL Server 2000 under Win XP?

Hi, I know XP is not a server OS. I tried to install it but it only allowed me to install the client only. What I want to know is can I use this in my local database cause I don't want to use Win 2000 server at home just to run SQL server. Actually I am having problem with the connection to the database, so SQL expert please help me out. thanks


edit: this is the problem that I am having. I use the right click on the SQL Server group and then I choose New SQL Server Resitration. And then I put next and then I choose my computer name under the available servers and then I add that to the right box. I click next and then connect using, I choose "The Windows account information I use to log on to my computer (Windows Authentication)". and then I choose Add the SQL Server(s) ti an existing SQL Server Group, Group Name SQL Server Group. and then when I click finish I get this "Server registration completeted Status: DESKTOP(my computer name)-SQL Server does not exist or acess denied.[]ConnectionOpen (Connect()" What's wrong with it? When you installed did you choose desktop install with all the options?

Does the SQL service manager icon show up in your system tray when you start up? If it does, is the service actually running?

hi, thanks for the reply, I don't see any desktop install at all. it only says sql server 2000 componenets. there's no such thing as desktop install. the service manager icon does not start when the system starts up.
