Can I run raid & non-raid discs on the same controller

I have a 200GB & 2x 250GB SATA hard drives. I'd like to use the 200gb drive for my OS, apps, etc. and configure the 250GB drives into a RAID1 array for data backup. I'll be using a motherboard with ICH9R southbridge and a separate jmicron controller for e-sata. I'm curious if I can plug all my hard drives into the ICH9R sata ports & just configure the two identical drives for raid, or if I need to plug those into the e-sata ports.

Sweet - thanks for the quick response. This is my first time trying out a RAID array & I was having a problem somewhere, so I thought I'd start troubleshooting at step 0 🙂. I got it worked out, but it was good to have the assurance that I was trying to do should indeed work. Thanks again!

It doesn't hurt to disconnect non-RAID disks while building an array, though.

Edit: Ooops, you have a single boot disk. Sorry, ignore the above comment.

That's always good advice. Whenever I reformat a disk not connected to the RAID array, all the RAID array drives get pulled--just in case. 🙂
