Can I run a PII-350 at 66Mhz FSB for 333Mhz? I have an LX board I want to use, and 350's are cheaper (!) than 333's...

A 350 running on a 66 MHz FSB wouldn't be a 333. It would be a 233. If you had an unlocked 350 (there are a few out there, but not many), you could run it at 66.66x5 = 333 MHz.

I have a 1st generation PII 350 running on a Abit BX6-II with which I can adjust the multipler higher than 3.5.

But I don't like overchoking.

I would like to know also... I have an old PII 233 running on a LX motherboard, and can get a PII 400 for nothing... Would it work at the 66Mhz bus speed, or could I jump the bus speed up to get closer to 100 (I think my board will go to apx 87Mhz?) and adjust the multiplier to get close to 400, or is this all a lost cause and I should just look for a good used BX motherboard?

With LX boards, the best and seemingly final upgrade solution is to the ppga celerons, if a bios upgrade is available for the board in question. A 533 celeron on a slotket will run circles around a 266 P2 on an Asus P2L97, for example. Forget overclocking it, pretty well maxxed out anyway.

DrDemento- if that P2-400 is free, I'd give it a try. You need to be cautious of bus speeds above 75, but even that would be a noticeable, not dramatic, improvement. If your system won't run at 75, you've lost nothing but a little time.
