I have a board that accepts two processors and and has two slots for 2 processors. I only have one opteron 275 and I only want to run that for now. When I put one processor into CPU0 it tells me that the bypass board is not installed , my motherboard did not include a bypass board. Where could I get one or is there a way to disable this ? I looked everywhere for the bypass board btw and checked every website, tyan's website, asus, everywhere

In the Opteron world, it really depends. Dual-CPU designs may have some of the board I/O on the 2nd CPU (remember that each CPU has three HyperTransport links, one of which is used inbetween processors).

If the board designers went for bandwidth maximization and did that, you'll either lose half of the I/O capabilities or install the HyperTransport passthrough dummy the board is asking for.

But if the board is designed to attach all the I/O to CPU #1, it will work without #2 all the same, except that the DIMM slots on #2 (if any) can't be used.

What board do you have anyway?

I bow before your psychic capabilities, NXIL ;)

If that really is the correct board, then the manual page to look at is the block diagram on page 9. This shows you what I wrote about - CPU2 has nothing attached to it but CPU1 and DIMM slots. This board will not lose any functionality if run with CPU1 only.

Wish I was psychic, believe me....

Google search for some key words in King Leo's post found this, posted on same day and about the same time that he posted in Anandtech forum:

AMDKING, who may be related to King Leo, posted this link to the board:

He had his answer in about 12 hours or so, and it is working now:

I would have replied in the 2CPU forum, but, I am not a member there, and didn't feel like registering...I figured AMDKING/KingLeo would check again on AT too....

By the way, Peter, I predict your next post will be number 8848 since 10 15 1999.
