Hi, I have a networking question ...

my office is installing some web filtering software soon which will cut out many of the news websites I like to read.

To get around this I'm probably going to spring for a verizon wireless broadband account.

Would it be possible to run the wireless broadband card in my notebook and have it enabled at the same time as the company's wired and wifi networks and then to set things up so that only certain programs access the net via the verizon card?

I'm hoping something like this would work, otherwise I'll probably have to bring my personal notebook to work to use for web browsing, which would be a pain.

Thanks for any advice you can give!

It's possible, but on Windows it'll be a PITA. But you'll also probably be violating some corporate security policies and could possibly get fired if you get caught. If you have a real business reason for visiting those sites then make your case to your manager, if not then suck it up and just do your work.

indeed, your laptop becomes a bridge around and across the network security. I'd be pissed if it were my network.

This is your best bet.

A little advice, the angle "They are securing my work network and I want to bypass this new security" is frowned upon around here since most of these professionals are the ones who implement and enforce network security.

Actually if you know how to manipulate the routes it's quite easy.

I absolutely agree, in a lot of companies personal equipment is not allowed. Not to mention that most companies have it worded in their usage policies that ANY attempt to circumvent security policies are a big no-no.

I suggest you save your personal browsing for your personal equipment on your personal time.
