My mb has 2 sata ports and 2 eide ports. My old hd is eide and I just got a new sata one. Id like to keep the old one for storage and backup and to transfer over pics and files to the new drive without having to back it up and all that.

Is this possible to run both at the same time?

Both drives are western digital. My mb is nforce3 in a ideq210p. If this is possible do I need to run the eide as a slave or in another mode to make it not think it is the c: drive any more???

Yes, but you have to configure the bios so that either the SATA or the IDE becomes the boot drive. If you have to install the OS in the SATA make sure you follow the procedures of installing the SATA drivers during installation. Check your mobo manual or check the OS Forum for specific instruction.

You may not have to install SATA drivers. Depends on whether the onboard controller requires it. Check motherboard manual for details.

But yes, you can run both, I'm doing it right now.
