Can I run high-end softwares on a laptop?

I want to run softwares like PeopleSoft, Oracle Applications, SQL Server2000 on a laptop because I will have to practise them while I am on move for the next few months. Is it possible? Can anyone advise me which laptop should I buy. Will Dell Precision M60 do the work?

Yes, of course. The M60 or any other modern laptop can run any of that software no problem. As with any computer, be sure to get plenty of RAM (1 GIG will suffice) and hard drive space.

The biggest difference between notebooks and desktop computers has traditionally been the graphics capabilities. But that gap has pretty much closed. Heck, now you can get the Dell 8600 with a Radeon 9600 graphics card.

I wouldn't recommend using a notebook as a host platform for enterprise computing, simply because the generally don't support huge hard drive, RAIDs, etc. But to simply run Oracle, PeopleSoft, etc... no problem.

Thanks! So can I choose something like Inspiron 1100 with 60GB hard drive and 1GB memory? I won't need sophisticated graphics card to run those softwares, right? All I need is a fast CPU. Does a faster FSB help for these softwares?
