I like to watch movies on my TV but game on the monitor. Currently waiting for my GPU to be delivered so I can't test it out. But will it be possible to do that?

The cable I'm using right now to connect my monitor to my laptop is DVI(monitor end) to HDMI (laptop end) and my TV is connect3ed using HDMI. So I swap them. But with the desktop i'm building it'll only have one HDMI on the GPU (two if you count the mobo one). Just wanting to know if I can do the above or have to get a DVI cable for the monitor so both will connect to the GPU.

You should be able to unless your MB automatically disables the onboard video once a dedicated gpu is installed.

If it's an ASUS motherboard, they will often have a setting somewhere buried in the BIOS that refers to "Surround View."

It will default to "Auto." However, Auto will not keep the integrated motherboard turned on. Instead, change the setting to "Enabled." That will keep the integrated motherboard video turned on, whether you also have a discrete video card or not.

Just wanted to mention that, because it's not very obvious based on the words they use to describe the settings, but I've done this on 2 different ASUS motherboards, and both worked to allow me to run dual video from both video sources simultaneously when I set surround view to enabled (instead of the default setting of auto).

What GPU are you getting? I would suggest just using it to power both displays. Just reuse the DVI to HDMI like you use now.
