Can I run BF3 with a ATI FireGL V5600?

When I start the game I get the DXGI_ERROR_UNSUPPORTED and it says "Failed creating D3D device of at least version 10.0". So obviously the answer right now is NO...I can't run it.

But I'm wondering if it's the way the drivers installed when I put in this card? Windows 7 automatically loaded some drivers internally...and I've had a hard time manually updating the drivers. If I was able to get the most recent drivers would that allow this card to be used for BF3?

I'm having a hard time finding on the net if this card is compatible with BF3. Probably because it's so old.

Thanks

To edit....here are my other specs:
Intel Core i7 - 920 at 2.67 GHz
6 GB ram
64 bit

The system is a dream and plays BF3 well but I'm RMAing my Radeon HD 5870 and this FireGL card is a temp card until my RMA gets resolved.

The v5600 is based off of the radeon 2600 I believe. It should run with the correct drivers. Make sure you run the direct X updater. However, even if you do get it running, it will be unplayable since the card is so old.

Checking ebay, it looks like the V5600 will still bring $50-$75 or so, which would be the way to go if you don't have any professional use for it (even a low-end new consumer-class GPU would be better for pro apps anyway). You could buy a new low-end card to mess about in BF3, and simultaneously list the V5600 for sale to recoup the $ while you wait for your RMA, which can often be a long long time.

This 6670, for $65/$55 AR, would play BF3 fairly decently on medium details at 1440x900 or 1680x1050. I have a friend playing BF3 with an Athlon X3 with the older 5670, and he does just fine.

Can't sell the card...it's on loan from buddy in IT where I work. It's from a CAD drafting machine that's a surplus for used parts.

So...I'm getting the idea this card should be able to play...but will play poorly. I need to get the drivers figured out and then see how poor it does play.

Thanks for feedback.

its like a 2600 so you are just wasting your time trying to get BF 3 to run smoothly on that.

Understood...I wasn't assuming it would run smoothly. I was just trying to understand if it should run at all.
