can i run an xp 1800 with pc100 ram?

Unforgiven

the title of the thread tells it all. i have a board that takes pc100 or pc133 ram but the xp 1800 wont run at the proper speed unless i manually bump the fsb and dram settings up to 133 and thus the ram pukes all over itself. am i just being a knob by even trying this or do i need pc133 for sure?

what motherboard do you have
i've run an xp1800 on my a7v kt133 motherboard with no problem and it would automatically boot at 1.1ghz with 100fsb

you can't run the fsb at 133 and the mem at 100 ?

I have had this problem before with my POS ECS mobo and an 1800+. It was locked at 11.5 multiplier and I could either select 100 or 133 Mhz bus for both RAM and CPU which was jumpered on the board. I couldn't change bus speeds of either one without affecting the other. I had PC100 in for a little while but the machine ran at 1150 Mhz (11.5x100) but after getting annoyed with slow ram and slow processor speeds, I bought PC133, switched out ram, switched the jumper and the CPU was automatically back up to 1550 Mhz (11.5x133). So apparently the only way on that mobo I could get 133 bus was with 133 Mhz ram (or at least 100 Mhz that could be OCed but I wouldn't recommend that). The upgrade of ram at this point for you would be a very cheap way to greatly increase speed while not costing a whole lot of money. What is your motherboard by the way?

yeah we are talking the ecs k7v5a pro mobo. i cant adjust the fsb without the dram being adjusted as well. i just sold the board on ebay because i just had some pc100 ram laying around and got an xp 1800 from a friend and was trying to put together a seti box without breaking the bank and cleaning out some old ram that i had. guess that i need just trade that ram for some pc133 and i should be ok with another mobo. thanx for the replies!
