Can I run Alpha PEP66 without fan?

Right now, since I cant overclock with my good graphics card, I have downclocked my system for my 3d Prophet to 851mhz. My question is if I can run my cpu at 851 @ 1.7 volts without a fan on it. Right now my cpu temp is, or should be, 32 C. But i have had problems with my temp readings lately so I dont really trust it. I am keeping my case open and it has one fan in the power supply. Can I do this?

If you dont know or you feel like answering both questions, can someone suggest how I can run my 3d prophet ddr at higher bus speeds than 121? I have it overclocked to 155 core and 360 memory with extra cooling on it. Any other ideas?

still, well anyawys, i wouldnt run my pal 6025 without a fan

how long do u want to run it, just put a 80mm case fan from the front on it for right now

i have been running it with no fan for a about an hour or so. I am loving not hearing my system on. That is the whole reason I wanted to take the fan off. I dont like noise when I am sleeping. I would like to keep it on all the time.

Actually, I was a little surprised to see this, but the IBM PL300 series of PC's come with slot 1 processor with a huge heatsink, but no fan. The processors are PIII-650's and 700's. They must be custom oem versions or something, because they look sorta like the old PII's used to look when you take the front of the black casing off.

The heatsink does get a little warm, but it doesn't overheat, even when running prime95 or seti for hours. I wonder what IBM knows that we don't?

same with Dells....The machines I used to work with had slot PIII with HUGE @ss HS and no fan...

I still would not recommend running one w/o a fan though....Just use a extremely low output fan with low dBa level...

ok so i slapped the fan on and closed the case to muffle the noise and my cpu temps rose to 35! That is 2 degrees hotter than when i have my case open and no fan. I cant have my case open with a fan because it is so loud. And with the case closed it is also loud.
