I'm getting a MSI K7T Pro2 for cheap, and am trying to find a chip for it. if i find a cheap 266 MHz fsb proc. can I run it in this board at 100 Mhz? The chipset is VIA KT133.

i've read some good things about the AXIA T-birds. anyone have any specific suggestions for a newbie to this world of enthusiasts???

thanks in advance

yes you can run 266fsb at 200fsb

performance/speed would drop unless its unlocked then you can raise teh mult accordingly

Yes, you can run it at 200mhz, but keep in mind that XP's and 266FSB Athlons come with a default XX.X * 133 = Total Mhz multiplier. You will need to change the default FSB in the BIOS, which is pretty simple, but you'll need an unlocked 266mhz T-bird or a 200mhz variety T-bird to access the appropriate multis. Its been a while but I think every T-bird on the orange packaging was factory unlocked. The purple ceramic ones needed to be unlocked, but it was easy b/c they didn't have the laser pits like the XP's. I'm not too familiar with that board either, but is it KT133 or KT133A? KT133A had some North Bridge improvements over KT133, resulting in some significant peformance increases.

thanks guys!

are either of you two (or anyone else) familiar with the AXIA Athlons? are they factory unlocked? if not is the unlocking process difficult?

thanks again.

i have axha 200fsb tbird (just before axia i assume damnit lol) and it is really simple to unlock

dead giveaway if they cpu is unlocked or not is the L1 bridges, are they connected or broken (afaik, only some 1.4ghz and 1.33ghz came factory unlocked i believe)

if they are not connected, take a graphite mechanical pencil (mechanical becuase skinney graphite is easier to work with rather than wooden pencil, buy you can take your pick) and go over the "golden dots" connecting them vertically

ex:

. . . .

after:

**NOTE** im not sure how many bridges there are (i cant remember lol) so if there are more than 4 connect them all as shown
make sure they are NOT connected to each other in any other way
