Can i run a 1.33 tbird @ 1.2?

I just bought a 1.33ghz tbird for a spare system, and the board only goes up to 1.2......do i need to unlock it or can i just run it at a lower multiplier? Is this bad for the CPU, or is it like underclocking, so it "should" run slightly cooler? or no real difference? thanks!

ABIT KT7, i know it has bios settings, but so did my old board, and i still had to unlock the chip to change it to anything other than the default multiplyer setting, i think ,heh, it's been a while, i only got 50mhz out of it(OC) but i should be fine doing it? Thanks!

your cpu will probably be unlocked already (tbirds 1.2ghz or faster seem to come unlocked from the factory)

since your board is based on the old kt133 chipset you wont really be able to run a very high fsb (officially supports 100mhz, and rarely overclocks past 110mhz)

but since your board supports adjusting the multiplier you should be able to just set the multiplier at 12x and leave the fsb at 100mhz for your desired 1.2ghz

also i belive that with the newer bios revisions the board actually supports 13x and 14x multipliers (but i could be wrong 🙂 ) in which case you can run it at 1.3ghz or 1.4ghz

Can i run it at 9x133? As opposed to 12x100? I really don't plan on overclocking or anything like that, and the highest multiplyer setting in the bios is 12.5......so i geuss somehow i could run it higher, at 1.33?

nope it cant run a 133mhz fsb... so it cant run 9x133 🙂

like i said above about the highest fsb that board can run is 110mhz (and thats overclocked)

so if you want want to overclock your stuck with a 100mhz fsb and 12x (or higher) multiplier

It can't run a fsb of 133? You sure about that? I have an abit kt7 and it can be clocked all the way up to 155fsb 38pci. At least thats what the bios says...

also from the kt7 faq..

KT7/KT7-RAID: 100MHz (200MHz DDR) FSB processors only. Fastest processor supported is the Athlon 1400(100) - but it must have locked (disconnected) L1 bridges. AthlonXP processors are not and will not be supported. All Duron and Duron (Morgan core) processors are supported.

Hrm, it says in the manual i can go up to 155 FSB.....is that just the KT7A???? Cause i geuss this is the same manual for both....any hope for running my 1.33 in here at 1.33? or do i need to drop to 1.2?

the old a7v (also a kt133 chipset board) also had bios settings for well over 133mhz 🙂

but it still wouldnt run any higher then about 110mhz... no matter what settings are available the kt133 chipset only "officially" supports 100mhz fsb (200mhz double pumped) and is notorious for only getting to about 110mhz when overclocking

my old epox 8k7a had bios settings for well above 200mhz (400mhz double pumped) but it only supported 100 and 133mhzfsb and couldnt overclock past 160mhz (just cause the settings are available in the bios doesnt mean the chipset is capable of doing it)

ohh to actually answer your question 🙂

most good kt133 boards have the 12.5x multiplier remapped to 13x

so yeah you should be able to run 1.3ghz (13x100mhz) or... you can increase the fsb a little (103mhz with a 13x multiplier and get to the 1.33ghz)

good luck
