Can I run 200Mhz FSB with Athlon 1.2?

I was about to purchase an ASUS A7V-E (KT133, 200Mhz fsb) with an Athlon 1.2 (266Mhz fsb), when the vendor advised me that this processor can NOT run fsb at 200Mhz, once it is 266. I thought that I could reduce the fsb speed below the specs. Am I right or the vendor gave me the correct advise?

Yes, if the motherboard allows multiplier adjustment and the L1 bridges are closed on the cpu you could run the 1.2G 266(9x133) at 200(12x100). I've got a 1.2G Athlon 200 running at 9x133 on my KT133A board.

Same here, 1.2 266FSB T'Bird running on an A7VKT133 with no problems. I had it OC'd to well over 1.4 without much trouble, but backed it down to 1.2 while I am researching a better cooling system for my case. A 266FSB will work fine with your board, plus you have CPU that will make a nice low-end system a year from now when you upgrade to something else.

You should have no problems running it at 200fsb. I bought a 1.3 266 Athlon and put in my MSI Pro2a. MSI says only 200 chip can be put in mine but I put the bus at 100fsb and raised the multiplier(L1 bridges were connected). Everything is working well and when I can afford a 133a board I can take advantage of the higher bus.

Thank you, folks, but now I am a little bit afraid because this machine is not for me. Even though some of you had successfull experiences running Athlon 1.2 at 200Mhz fsb, I wana make sure that it is not something like "a Thunderbird slot A running in boards based on KX133", not recommended, some work, some not...

Is that idea absolutelly normal (like running PC133 memories at 100Mhz) or is it a risk?
