as you all probably already know the macbook volume is very low and people have complained to death about it.

Well VLC allows u to increase the volume up to 400% and i found that around 300% i can actually enjoy watching movies on it and it dosent sound like its too loud or im really forcing it but i was wondering can i ruin my speakers by making it go louder than its suppose to ?

I would think that as long as you don't hear any noticeable distortion, there shouldn't be a problem. I'll see what I can find.

I have wondered that on occasion myself. If VLC is somehow bypassing some sort of artificial limit that Apple puts on the speakers, then you may have to worry. But if it is simply doing it through software somehow, then nothing to see here, move along.

Though, now that I am typing this, I remember that Windows was louder than OS X. Same MP3, max volume in both OSes, max volume in iTunes, Windows was louder.
