Can I rid my computer of DirectX?

DirectX is a integral part of the OS. Without it alot of things will not work. I doubt it could actually be removed in XP without breaking the OS. So many applications use the services it provides. One of the major ones being DirectShow.

The DirectX "uninstaller" linked above removes DirectX 9 from a XP system and restores DirectX 8. It does not actually remove DirectX.
