Can I replace this mobo???

Hey all, I just snagged a Dell GX270 from work that I was going to reformat and setup as my new home pc. Problem is that there's a known issue with these mobo's. The caps blow and failures are pretty common. So I was wondering if it's possible to just replace the mobo with a nice, stable aftermarket unit so that I won't have to worry about losing my info when this takes a dump down the road. It's an Intel 865G chipset in the mini-tower. Mobo look likes just like this one...MOBO

I'd love to just find something I could drop in with the same back panel setup, or even close to it, and just swap all the other parts over. I've been out of the upgrade scene for a long time, so I was hoping you guys could help me out here. Any chance of this happening?

You should be able to find a motherboard that will fir the GX270 case without too much trouble as long as its not one of the "slim-line" cases, however the power supply may not have a standard ATX pin-out, so you may need to replace it along with the motherboard.

The other alternative would be to contact Dell directly & simply order a replacment of the same model from them... I know they still make them because there are still GX 270's out there that are under warranty.

Thanks man, I wonder if the replacement boards are stable? Also, I was thinking, would I be better off just picking up a new, better mobo and just drop it and everything else into a new case? I have a case lying around, so is there a real good and inexpensive P4 478 I belive mobo that I should consider?

Can I add to this question and ask what happens to the Installed Windows XP if we change motherboards?
Will Windows require us to purchase a Windows Update CD?
Will the existing Windows install just automatically detect the new motherboard and adjust without problem??
