Can i replace my phone with an iPod touch?

HI,

I am rarely, if ever, somewhere I need to use a cell-phone and not around a wifi hot-spot. Is there a way for me to use skype and an iPod 4th gen to receive phone calls made to a phone-number?

or does apple-skype not have the same functionality as pc based skype?

I'm thinking of using a mobile hot-spot for use elsewhere, should the need arise.

Should be possible to do. I had a former co-worker who did something like this, but I think he ended up getting a pre-paid phone because he wasn't always around wi-fi and was missing calls.

it works fine as a phone with skype on wifi. and can txt with google voice
a Clear hot spot is sweet on the road
