Had (past tense) a working Win XP Pro. I burned DVD of Vista Beta 5308. I booted up on the DVD, just to see if it burned ok. As soon as the first screen came up with do you want to install? I replied no, exit install, and it did exit. But now the XP pro seems to be hosed. If I attempt to boot, it comes up with the Windows logo and the thingy moving across, only for about one second, and then it reboots.

Can I repair this so that I don't have to reinstall everything again?

P.S. I am using another computer with Win XP Pro. and both machines have SP2 with all the updates.

Here's a new twist. I tried booting from the Win XP Pro SP2 CD to reinstall. It reports that it doesn't see a hard drive on the system!

of course, if I try to boot off of the hard drive I do get the Windows screen saying that the previous boot failed and would I like to boot in SAFE mode, etc....

What is going on !

BTW, I have Partition Magic 8 CD that I can boot from, if that can help.
