Can I reinstall older DirectX version?

I just installed Freedom Force yesterday and it requires me to installed DirectX 8.1
But now I can't play Diablo II. I've tried newest Detonator and run VidTest again, still no go.
Is it possible to install DirectX 8.0a over 8.1?
any side effect?
btw, I use GF3 Ti200 with Det 28.32

There is a utility to uninstall DirectX but I dont think its recommended...? (might be a good idea to backup before hand) Also you might check on a patch for DII for DirectX 8.1 ?
 
I've already email Blizzard about this but so far no reply yet.
I take it it won't work if I reinstall DX 8.0a ?
I definitely won't risk uninstalling DX, I've heard too many horror story about this.
Can someone assure me that reinstalling DX 8.0a is ok?
 
you can't uninstall dx

the best way to do it.. is rename the migration file.. and reinstall windows over the top of itself
