Memory
PC3-8500 Non-Parity (NP) Double Data Rate Three (DDR3) Technology
Two SO-DIMM Slots
The use of 1067 MHz SO DIMM memory is recommended for this system.
1 GB, 2GB, or 4GB memory
Supports up to 8GB maximum memory
2GB, 4GB Intel Turbo Memory (selected models)
Note: Only 64-bit operating systems support more than 3GB of system memory (RAM).

I have 2 x 8 GB sticks in my T420. To get at one of the slots you have to remove the keyboard.

Nice disassembly video for the T410.
Your PC may have 1 x 4GB module or 2 x 2GB modules, depending on what Lenovo had laying around during the assembly. Belarc Advisor should report what configuration it has, no need to take it apart just for verification.

Do you mean the 34-mm ExpressCard slot or 5-in-1 Media Card Reader slot?

Kinda off topic but a service on my os (svchost.exe) is consistently using CPU. Any programs out there to help remedy this, that isnt a waste of time?

You're not being very clear. Your laptop has a 34mm express card slot on the right hand side near the front which you can plug many types of expansion card in. It also has a 5-in-1 media card reader on the front of the laptop on the right hand side for things like SD, Memory Stick, Memory Stick Duo etc..

This 32GB SSD you refer to, what is it? Is it actually a 32GB SD card inserted into the memory card slot or an actual SSD installed in the express card slot?

svchost.exe is a Windows service. It's not uncommon to have lots of them in task manager but if it's utilising 100% of your CPU it's likely problem with your Windows installation.

A clean installation is never a bad thing and often solves many problems. I often clean install a machine than spend ages trying to fault find as the end result is much better.

What is Win 10 trial though?
