Can I put pegs on a mountain bike?

I dont need the quick release hubs at all. I hardly do anything more than the casual romp through park trails and the like. It'd be nice to have pegs just as a kind of joke and throwback to the olden days :).

Completely useless on a mtb. Why would you want the extra weight? Why would you want to lose the quick release hubs (assuming your bike has them that is)?

No, but I think it would be hilarious to carry someone from one class to the next (on a college campus) on my pegs.

You'd have to spend alot of money to get the traditional axle pegs. Most likely you'd have to have a new hub and it would be a cheapie which means you'd probably just buy a new rear wheel. Then you'd have to buy a new rear gearset that probably wouldn't work with your current rear derailer. Your new rear derailer probably wouldn't work with your current shifter either. The best and cheapest way to go about this would be to have "pegs" welded onto the frame.
