I know computer speakers are always "magnetically shielded," but my stereo speakers sound a helluva lot better... so is it okay? I never thought about it until today when my monitor went out and the tech support guy asked if I had any electronics next to my computer (I told him no :) ). But actually my stereo is about a foot from my monitor and the speakers are about two feet from the computer. Could having a stereo/speakers next to a computer harm it?

You should be safe, especially if the stereo is fairly new (made in the last few years). If it has a tape deck on it, you should deffinately be safe - the speakers have to be shielded when they sit next to a tape deck, or they might erase the tape. I've had my speakers - from an aiwa 3-disc, dual deck bookshelf system - sitting next to my monitor for months without a problem. They sound MUCH better than the crummy speakers I got with my system. :)
