Can I put an sata-II SSD in lappy with sata-1 interface?

I have an HP Pavilion dv4-1117nr with T5800 2ghz, vista64, 250gb 5400rpm hdd, 2x2gb ddr2 6400

It is an sata interface, will an sata2 or 3 drive work? would they be bandwidth limited?

A quick google says yes, the exception being some Maxtor drives. Per the SATA specs SATA is 1.5 gb, SATA II is 3gb, and SATA III is 6gb.

So theoretically you'd lose half the potential bandwidth of your SATA II drive in a SATA interface.

yup you'll lose half your benchmark bandwidth but not real life iops 🙂

also some older machines will die with trim drives. just clone your current and be happy
